Naturally, the procurement and maintenance of such hi-tech equipment and materials come at a cost – but we don’t pass on that cost to you because we are able to share it amongst our large team of specialists.

Technology serves many aspects of our treatment modalities, the most fundamental being the sterilisation of our surgery – including all instruments and handpieces by autoclave – to comply with and in fact exceed government standards.

Because of the minute scale of the oral environment, much of what we do also involves magnification – the greatest beneficiaries of this process being our endodontists (or root canal therapists). The dental canals treated by endodontists are often almost invisible to the naked eye, so giant microscopes are used by our registered specialists to aid visualisation and hence precision of treatment. The images, once captured, can be readily displayed on a 17 inch personal monitor for perusal and analysis by both patient and clinician together in real time.

Imaging

Other Imagery

We use an intra-oral camera, where appropriate, to obtain a clear view of your dental needs at three stages: before treatment, in the planning phase and following a procedure. We also use digital photography to make “before” and “after” comparisons of treatment alterations such as porcelain veneers and dental bleaching.

Our X-ray images, including all intra-oral radiographs, are digital, a process emitting less than one third of the radiation doses emitted by conventional X-ray imaging and enabling our patients and our clinicians to obtain a clear on a large computer screen. Our OPG X-rays, also in digital format, and generated using the most advanced digital OPG machine with the latest software applications, provide panoramic views of the teeth and jaw structure.

The Galileos 3D system, arguably one of the most significant advances in dental radiography in the last 100 years, brings a true three-dimensional radiographic image to our screens. Used for advanced complex treatment planning in all fields of dentistry, it is considered superior to other systems thanks to sophisticated software applications and because of its low radiation exposure.

Our patients no longer need to endure the uncomfortable and messy impressions of earlier times. For orthodontics and restorations – including crowns, bridges, veneers, onlays, inlays and implant abutments – our clinicians use an iTero scanner to take virtual impressions of your teeth to facilitate treatment planning. It’s as simple as taking photographs with a hand-held camera and then emailing these images to our dental laboratory for the next stage of the restoration.

Laser Dentistry

Laser Dentistry

One of the most significant advances in dentistry in decades is that of laser dentistry. The Collins Street Specialist Centre uses an industry-leading combination of three laser systems: the Versa Wave, the Light Touch ErYAG, and the Fox Diode.

CEREC® Dentistry

CEREC® Dentistry

cerec dentistry
cerec filling

You can now have perfectly fitting, good-looking ceramic restorations created for you in just one visit to our practice, thanks to CEREC technology. Large amalgam and composite fillings can now be replaced with milled porcelain restorations created by using state-of-the-art CEREC 3D and CEREC AC software working in conjunction with electronic image acquisition, an infrared camera and a milling unit. The end result is a restoration that is stronger than composite resin, doesn’t flex and matches the natural colour of your teeth.
